UB Techne Institute Masters Thesis Project Fund

The Techne Institute is pleased to offer funding for University at Buffalo Masters Students completing Thesis Projects with the goal of graduating in 2014. The maximum award amount is $1,000.

Projects should integrate the arts with emerging technologies, including but not limited to digital art, electronic music, interactive computer programs, and mediated performance. Students pursuing MFA, M Arch, MA in Music, and MS degrees are encouraged to apply.

Please note that funding is for the completion of projects– the hands-on, creative output of the degree program– rather than the written thesis. Fund recipients are asked to acknowledge Techne Institute support at any public exhibitions or presentations of the final project.

Application Instructions:

You are strongly encouraged to complete any paragraph length responses in a separate word processing program like Microsoft Word, and then paste them into the application form. Character limits include spaces. Final character counts may vary slightly between Word Tools and the Google form.

Application Questions To Prepare Include:

Project Description (1500 characters maximum, with spaces)
Provide a detailed description of your project. How does your project integrate art and emerging technologies?

Personal Statement (1000 characters maximum, with spaces)
Describe yourself as an artist. What are your artistic goals? How does this project relate to them?

Resume (1500 characters maximum, with spaces)
Please use * in place of bullet points, and spacing instead of tabs.

Project Expenses (500 characters maximum, with spaces)
Provide an itemized list of the expenses for this project, including amounts.

Budget Justification (500 characters maximum, with spaces)
Describe in detail how funding from the Techne Institute would be used towards your project. Explain any income or expenses that may not be clear.

Funding Impact (500 characters maximum, with spaces)
What impact will funding from the Techne Institute have on your project? Will you be able to complete the project as described without Techne Institute funding?
